KNEU 1250The Uintah County Commission declared next week, May 21st through the 27th, EMS Week. EMS Week got its start back in 1974 when President Gerald Ford declared a week in November to be National Emergency Medical Services Week.
The final concert for the Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra has a musical lineup that is sure to impress. The group will be performing pieces selected from Mendelssohn and Vivaldi string suites, Percy Jackson’s Molly on the Shore, and a special arrangement of Over the Rainbow by Utah composer Andres Paredes.
Extra moisture this year means extra growth in the grasses and wild flowers, creating a dangerous situation as wildfire season approaches. Prescribed burning is underway in the Flaming Gorge Ranger District. According to Ashley National Forest representative Louis Haynes, burning on Dowd Mountain began on Friday, May 12th, and is expected to treat about 1500 acres of forest when complete.
The Uintah County Commission approved three board positions during Monday’s Commission meeting. Robert Abercrombie was appointed to the Northeast Counseling board for a term expiring on December 31st, 2020.
From a half marathon to a community art festival, Uintah County was humming with activity over the weekend. Two neighboring events fed off each other in downtown Vernal on Saturday with the Vernal Fire Department’s free community breakfast and the Vern and Al season kickoff party across the street at the Utah Field House.
Uintah High Theatre impressed the crowd at the High School Musical Theatre Awards in Salt Lake on Saturday with their segment featuring “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”. The talented teens entertained and thrilled the crowd, especially as the car began to float on the stage bringing the audience to their feet.
The window to declare candidacy for the 2017 municipal elections is coming up in June. It was previously reported that Roosevelt City has no positions up for election this year when in fact the Roosevelt City Municipal Election will be held to elect a Mayor and two city council members.
The superintendent and a principal in the Daggett County School District are accused of knowing a 13-year-old girl had been exchanging nude photos with a 21-year-old man and failed to report it to police or the girl’s guardian.
