KNEU 1250The criminal misconduct at the heart of the Daggett County Jail scandal has received serious condemnation from the Attorney General’s Office. The charges were announced on May 5th after an investigation by the Utah Department of Corrections Law Enforcement Bureau and a review of the findings by the Office of the Attorney General.

One man is dead after an accident north of Rifle on Tuesday. A Grand Junction man was traveling on Highway 13 when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle rolled and 54-year-old Troy Friar was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death of a 21-year-old woman in the Duchesne County Jail last December is getting a closer look by the Utah Attorney General’s office. Madison Jensen died in the Duchesne County Jail on December 1st after a 4 day stay during which she had been severely ill.

The Daggett County Commission is working closely with the Governor’s Office and Department of Corrections to rebuild trust in hopes of having state inmates returned to the care of the Daggett County Jail. State inmates were removed from the jail in February. In April, Sheriff Jorgensen resigned and this month charges were filed by the Attorney General’s Office against the former Sheriff and 4 deputies relating to either failing to prevent, knowing about or participating in prisoner abuse.
