UTSSD Board Approves BTA Funding Through 2019

Concerns about funding for BTA in Uintah County through 2019 can be put to rest. During their Thursday meeting, the board for the Uintah Transportation Special Service District unanimously approved to fund BTA for the remainder of 2019. What the funding plans are for after 2019 have yet to be determined. The board had already approved the full funding for the BTA in their 2019 budget but had decided to pay BTA on a month to month basis prompting concern from some community members, especially those who rely on the busing system.

The TriCounty Health Department released their 2018 annual report that highlights how the department has served the community. Public health services have a profound impact on our lives, often times with us not realizing it. Any person who safely got body art or used a tanning bed relies on the health department to inspect such facilities. Many of the services we enjoy have been inspected by the health department, including 15 public drinking water systems, 31 schools, and 114 wastewater sites.

Teens Confront Vernal Man ‘Engaging in Lewd Conduct Involving a Child’

A group of teens stepped up in a situation in which a man was “engaging in lewd conduct involving a child’ in a Vernal neighborhood. According to Vernal PD, officers were dispatched to the area of 1300 West Main Street on Wednesday, March 20th, on a report of Disorderly Conduct. “ Upon arrival a male subject was located and found to have sustained an injury to his head,” shares Vernal PD.

Thousands of Basin citizens with severe bouts of cabin fever are expected to flock to the Western Park this weekend to kick off spring with a favorite annual event. The 26th annual Home & Garden Show & Outdoor Expo, presented by Evans Family Media, is the largest retail trade event in Northeastern Utah and it is taking place this Friday and Saturday.

2019 BTA Funding on Agenda at UTSSD Board Meeting Tonight

The future of BTA has been a hot topic in Uintah County this year and tonight the board for the Uintah Transportation Special Service District will address the transit system funding for 2019. The board approved the 2019 funding for the BTA in December but decided to pay BTA on a month to month basis. On February 25th, community members showed up in force to the Uintah County joint city-county meeting where the future of BTA was discussed, public input was received, and questions were answered about the UTSSD budget.

Stranded and Missing Snowmobilers Safe Thanks to Search and Rescue

Three separate incidents of stranded snowmobilers in recent days required the help of Search and Rescue. According to Wasatch County Search and Rescue, 9-1-1 was called by a female who was sledding in the Strawberry area on Tuesday evening around 6:42pm but who had become stranded. “She was sledding alone and became stuck in the snow,” shares Search and Rescue.

Free Performance Tonight for VernalUTAH Storytelling Festival

Thanks to the hard work of volunteers acquiring a special grant, tonight’s performance of the VernalUTAH Storytelling Festival is free to the public. The Grand Night of Tales being held tonight at the Vernal Middle School Auditorium will be the first night of performances by world class storytellers. “When I was in junior high, I couldn’t wait to go see the festival performances at the high school,” shares committee member Katie Ufford.

UBTech Welding Building Opening

Although the project came together fairly quickly for a project of its size it was still quite an endeavor. As the acclaim of UBTech welding program continued to grow and the students brought back numerous awards, it was apparent to UBTech President Aaron Weight that a new building was necessary.

$40,000 Donation From Andeavor to Upgrade UBTech Health Simulation Center

UBTech is the recipient of yet another generous donation, this time to upgrade their Health Simulation Education Center. UBTech announced in a recent press release that mid-stream gas company Andeavor Logistics has made a $40,000 dollar gift to the school that will be used to purchase simulation equipment to give students hands-on practice in both emergency and non-emergency medically-related situations.
