KNEU 1250The Uintah School Board met Tuesday night and approved the 2018-2019 Fiscal Budget. The $82.1 million dollar budget was approved in a 4 to 1 vote. According to a release from the Uintah School District, $58.6 million dollars of that is for the operations and maintenance fund which includes employee salaries.
Representative Rob Bishop issued a statement following the signing of President Trump’s Executive Order on immigration. “I am relieved to know that these family separation issues are being addressed,” shared Bishop. “I stand ready to pass legislation that will enhance border security and give due respect to the family unit. Security and compassion are not mutually exclusive. These problems stemmed from legal uncertainty. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the ongoing effort to solve this problem the right way.” Bishop has submitted language included in the proposed Reform Acts. His provision removes impediments to the Border Patrol as they defend the borders and execute certain search and rescue operations.
The Uintah County Commission reviewed bids for remodeling work to better suit theneeds of the Community Development Department during Monday’s Commissionmeeting.

A Roosevelt event that grows in popularity every year is rapidly approaching. The annualRedmud Run held annually on July 4th is in its 6th year. The event started in 2013 with new fans joining the muddy fun every year. The event started with about 250 participantsand by year 4 there was over 500 participants.
The summer months are a favorite for visitors to Flaming Gorge and the Ashley NationalForest is giving a heads up on some upcoming projects. The Cedar Springs Boat Rampwill be closed June 26th at 4:00pm and reopened June 27th at noon.
Keep an eye out for fake bills as their use is on the rise in the Uintah Basin. According to Roosevelt City Police Chief Rick Harrison, Roosevelt Police have seen a noticeable increase in counterfeit currency.
The Uintah County Library is remembering 120 teens that have been lost on Utah roads, including one of the Basin’s own. The state’s Zero Fatalities Campaign includes a Teen Memoriam of youth who have lost their lives on Utah Roads as a way to put faces and feeling behind the statistics of lives lost.
Most Uintah County voters now have ballots in hand with time to vote by mail or in person. Clerk Auditor Mike Wilkins has several things he wants the public to know. “If you did not receive your ballot in the mail, please come into the County Clerk’s office,” shares Wilkins.
With a feeling of Déjà vu, Uintah County Commissioners grappled again with the adoption of the State recommended Certified Tax Rate. If adopted, the 2018 Certified Tax Rate would increase property taxes by approximately $11 dollars per $100,000 dollars in home value with the county receiving an additional $749,000 dollars in order to provide the county with the same revenue totals as 2017.
A tournament earlier this month helped in the effort to salvage bluegill before Steinaker Reservoir is drained for repairs. According to DWR Conservation Outreach Manager Tonya Kieffer, there were 110 tournament participants.
After years of construction and major changes, the Vernal Regional Airport is celebrating its way into the future and has invited the public to join in. “We are doing an airport Grand Reopening for the runway, terminal, and also a ribbon cutting for the new air service,” shares Airport Manager Doug Brown.
