KNEU 1250A new wildfire in Dinosaur National Monument was started on Sunday by lightning. So far the “Happy Hollow” fire is burning an area of mostly trees and sagebrush. At last report the fire was 335 acres and burning in the Monument about 25 miles west of Maybell, Colorado.

A homicide investigation is ongoing after the death of a man over the weekend on the Uintah-Ouray Indian Reservation. FBI spokeswoman Sandra Barker confirms that a 28-year-old man was killed during the early morning hours on Saturday, August 13th, in the town of Gusher.

A LaPoint man pleaded Not Guilty last week to new 1st Degree Felony child sex abuse charges. The charges were filed against 54-year-old Robert Karl Riker for alleged child sex abuse offenses dating from 1999 through 2011.
Hunter safety is not just for the youth. The Division of Wildlife Resources is offering safety tips for the upcoming archery hunt that kicks off onAugust 20th. According to DWR Hunter Education Coordinator Kirk Smith, there are reports every year of archery hunters injuring themselves and most accidents are caused by not being safe in tree stands or having arrows out before the hunter is ready to shoot.
After two nights of electroshocking and gathering data on fish, DWR biologists have good news. The fish stocked in Red Fleet Reservoir this year are doing well. Last October, Red Fleet was treated with rotenone to remove illegal walleye that posed a threat to endangered fish that live below the reservoir.
