KNEU 1250To help keep the public in the know, there has been a change to animal control for Ballard City that started on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Ballard previously contracted with Roosevelt City for all their animal control and shelter services. With the new changes, the city has adopted the Unified Animal Control Ordinance that Uintah County, Vernal City, and Naples City have been using.
As weather permits, the Flaming Gorge Vernal Ranger District will be implementing prescribed fires in April, May, and possibly June. The burns will be on the north slope of the Uinta Mountains mostly within Ponderosa Pine stands because they are more prone to frequent fire. Mature Ponderosa Pine have a thick bark that allows them to survive, in fact thrive, with frequent surface fire.
As members of the Vernal community we are quite aware of the many outdoor adventures that the area affords but many residents of Utah don’t know what they are missing, let alone the rest of the United States. Well now we have a chance to show the US what Vernal offers. US Today has included Vernal, Utah as one of the top 20 candidates for favorite small town for outdoor adventure.
It’s a busy time of year but don’t let that stop you from the chance for an amazing experience. Auditions for Outlaw Trail Theater’s production ofThe Pirates of Penzanceare being held Tuesday and Wednesday, April 16th and 17th, from 6:30 to 9:30pm at the Western Park Ice Rink Building.
It is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and local agencies are showing their gratitude for the dispatchers of the Uintah Basin Communications organization. Both the Uintah and Duchesne County Sheriff’s Offices shared their thanks on social media. Gifts and treats will also make their way to the team at Uintah Basin Communications from many community members this week.
Vernal’s very first youth comic con was a huge success! Over five hundred people came to the Uintah County Library and many purchased comics from local children authors and illustrators. The event started with upwards of 100 people participating in the previous comic book art classes.
Anadarko and Middle Fork Energy are the first recipients of a special award that is the first of its kind. Last week, TriCounty Health introduced the public to the Uintah Basin LORA award, LORA standing for Leadership in Ozone Reduction Awareness. “The award is given to recognize voluntary industry efforts to reduce ozone in the Basin,” explained TriCounty Health.
To say that Uintah Basin Technical College performed well at the 2019 SkillsUSA Utah Leadership and Skills Competition would be a severe understatement. The UBTech campuses sent a total of 72 students to compete at the state level. Of those sent, 28 placed in the top three in their fields.
Parents and guardians have a hard task in teaching their children how to be safe on devices, especially as they are often the last to learn of new apps and websites online. The Uintah/Daggett Children’s Justice Center is offering special classes to help local families rise to the challenge. Up next is a class for children ages 9 to 12 to be held Tuesday, April 16th.
If you talk to the cast and production team of Vernal Theatre: LIVE’s Bye Bye Birdie, opening tonight, about their experience with this show, there is one word that is likely to come up again and again: F-U-N, FUN! Bright costumes, 1950’s big hair, rolled up jeans, a crooning Elvis-type, and of course, screaming girls, women, and even a few men keep the show fun and the laughs coming. Local theatre veteran Amy Lemon plays the lead role of Rosie in the production, an experience she says has been among her favorite on the stage.
The night skies of the Uintah Basin have some great views and it’s common to stare into the vastness of space and have many questions. The Utah Field House of Natural History is hosting an event that might bring some answers to such deep questions. It will start with a lecture on the solar system from NASA Ambassador Thomas Quayle.
It was a quick meeting on Monday for the Uintah County Commission. Among the few business items handled, the Commissioners gave their approval and authorized signatures for the application of the Department of Workforce Services Housing Community Development Homelessness funding grant.
